Today, I wanna share my latest project with you all – remaking the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001. I’ve always been a huge fan of classic watches, and the Calatrava is just about as classic as it gets. So, I thought, why not try to recreate one myself?
First things first, I started by gathering as much info as I could about this watch. I looked up a bunch of pictures, read some articles, and watched a few videos to get a good feel for the watch’s design and features. I learned that the original is famous for its manual winding caliber 30-255 PS and a pretty decent 65-hour power reserve. It also has a special guilloched hobnail pattern. All this stuff I had to try and replicate.
Next, I moved on to the materials. For the case, I needed some rose gold, since that’s what the “R” in 6119R-001 stands for. I got a good piece of rose gold to work with, trying to make it as close as possible to the one from Patek Philippe.
Then came the tricky part – crafting the case. I carefully shaped and polished the rose gold, trying to get that perfect round shape of the Calatrava. I spent hours on this, making sure every curve was just right. After that, I worked on the dial. The original has a silvery grained dial. I chose a similar material and got to work, carefully applying it to get that same textured look.
Putting it all together was like a dream. I fitted the movement into the case, attached the dial, and added the hands. The final touch was the strap. I picked out a nice, high-quality leather strap that matched the classy vibe of the watch.
- Gathered information and images of the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001.
- Sourced rose gold for the case.
- Shaped and polished the case.
- Created the dial with a silvery-grained texture.
- Assembled the movement, dial, and hands.
- Attached a leather strap.
The first time I wound it up and saw it ticking, man, that was a moment! It’s not a perfect replica, of course, but I’m pretty darn proud of how it turned out. It’s got that classic Calatrava look, and it feels great on the wrist.
So, that’s my story of remaking the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001. It was a challenging project, but totally worth it. Hope you guys enjoyed hearing about it! I also hope I can find some buddies who share the same interest with me. How wonderful it will be if we can work together to make something interesting!
Oh, I almost forgot that some guys asked me about the price. I searched that the original Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001 is around $30,000. I have to say it is not a small amount of money for most people including me. That’s why I made this one by myself. Well, mine only took me around $1,000.
Alright, see you next time! Keep creating, everyone!
