Alright, folks, gather ’round, gather ’round! Today, I wanna share my little project of remaking the PRADA Medium Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. Yeah, you heard that right.
So, I’ve been itching to get my hands dirty and make a bag for a while now. I saw this PRADA bag, the Galleria Saffiano one, and I thought, “Hey, I can do that!” It’s a pretty classic style, you know? Simple, clean lines, nothing too fancy, but still classy as hell. So I thought why don’t I just do it?
First, I started by just staring at a bunch of pictures of the bag online. I spent hours, I’m not even kidding, just zooming in and out, trying to figure out how it’s put together. Then I tried to make a rough sketch about the bag based on what I observed. Then, I started sketching out the pattern pieces. This part took some time. I wanted to get the dimensions right, you know, make it look like the real deal, but in my own way.
Next up was the material. I knew I needed some good quality leather. The original is made of this Saffiano leather, which has this kind of cross-hatch texture. It’s pretty unique. I did find some similar leather on one shop. It was not cheap though. But I chose the black one just like what I saw on the Internet.
- Cutting the leather: This was the scary part! I laid out my pattern pieces, traced them onto the leather, and then, very carefully, cut everything out with my rotary cutter. I was sweating bullets, I’m not gonna lie.
- Sewing it together: Okay, this took some patience. I used my trusty old sewing machine. It’s a basic one, nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. I stitched the main body pieces together, then added the sides and the bottom. It was starting to look like a bag!
- The handles: This part was a bit tricky. I cut out long strips of leather, folded them over, and stitched them together to make the handles. Then I had to attach them to the bag, which was a bit of a pain. But I managed!
- The lining: I wanted a nice lining for the inside, so I picked out some soft fabric. I cut out the pieces and sewed them together, then attached them to the inside of the bag.
Finally, I added the zipper and some little metal feet to the bottom. The last step was putting on the PRADA logo. I made a little leather tag and stitched it onto the front. I wanted to make my bag unique so I wrote “Remake” below the logo.
And there you have it! My very own, handmade, PRADA-inspired bag. It’s not perfect, of course. There are a few wonky stitches here and there, and it’s definitely not as polished as the real thing. I don’t know how much I spent on the materials, maybe more than 100 bucks, I guess. But I’m super proud of it. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot in the process.

Maybe I’ll try making another one sometime, maybe a different style. Or maybe I’ll just stick to admiring bags from afar. We’ll see!
