So, I saw this PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag online, and I thought, “Hey, I can make that!” I mean, how hard could it be, right? Plus, I wanted a new project to keep me busy.
First things first, I needed to get my hands on some materials. I went online and searched for some Saffino leather. I found a pretty good-looking one that, to me, is similar to the original’s. I also ordered some hardware, like buckles and a zipper, you know, the usual stuff for a bag. Oh, and I needed lining material too. Something sturdy but not too fancy.
Once all my goodies arrived, I started to study the pictures of the actual Prada bag. I printed out a bunch of them, different angles, close-ups of the details. Then I sketched out the bag’s pattern on some large paper. I was not really good at drawing, but I tried. I was just trying to figure out the shapes and sizes of each part. I did my best to measure things out, like the body of the bag, the side panels, the bottom, and the handles. I made quite a few mistakes, and I had to start over multiple times, but hey, that’s part of the process, right?
Next up, cutting the leather. This was the nerve-wracking part. I laid out the Saffiano leather, placed my paper patterns on top, and traced around them with a pencil. I took a deep breath, and then, snip, snip, I started cutting. It felt a bit weird cutting into such expensive material, but I told myself to stay focused.
After the cutting came the sewing. Now, I’m not a pro at sewing, but I know the basics. I started with the handles. I folded the leather strips, sewed them together, and attached them to the main body of the bag. I had to use a heavy-duty needle for this because the leather was pretty thick. I also put the zipper on, and then sewed the side panels to the body. It was slow work, and my fingers got pricked a few times, but I was making progress.
Then came the lining. I cut the lining fabric according to my pattern, sewed it up, and then carefully attached it to the inside of the bag. This was important because it gave the bag a nice, finished look and also added some extra durability.
Finally, I added the hardware – the buckles, the little feet at the bottom, and the Prada logo, which I also ordered online. Attaching these was a bit tricky, but I managed to do it with some pliers and a lot of patience.
The Result
-
After hours of work, my homemade Prada bag was finally done! It wasn’t exactly like the original, of course. There were some imperfections here and there, but overall, I was pretty happy with it. I felt really proud of myself for actually making something like this.
-
It’s a decent-sized bag, big enough to hold my everyday stuff – my wallet, phone, keys, and even a small book. And the Saffiano leather gives it a really classy look. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now, and it’s holding up pretty well. Plus, I get to brag about making it myself, which is always fun.

Would I do it again? Maybe. It was a fun challenge, but it was also a lot of work. But hey, who knows, maybe I’ll try making another designer bag sometime. For now, I’m just enjoying my new, self-made Prada bag.
I hope you guys enjoyed my little project story. Let me know what you think, and if any of you have tried making your own bags, I’d love to hear about it! Stay tuned for my next project!
