Okay, so I’ve been itching to remake a classic bag, and I finally took the plunge. You know those iconic Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bags? Yeah, I went for the small size. It’s just so…classic, you know?

First off, I did some digging. This Galleria bag, it’s been around since like, 2007. A real veteran in the bag world! And apparently, “Galleria” is the name, and “Saffiano” is the type of leather. Italian, must be fancy, right? They make these bags in Italy, so that makes sense.

I started looking around, and man, there are so many versions of this bag! Big ones, small ones, a rainbow of colors. They have shoulder bags, mini bags, bucket bags, handbags, totes… even those backpacks the kids are into these days. But I was set on the Galleria. That classic look just spoke to me.

I started gathering my materials. The most important part? The leather, of course! Had to find some good Saffiano leather. It’s got this cross-hatch texture, kind of tough, meant to last. Found a decent supplier online after a bit of searching. I measured out the leather very carefully.

Then came the cutting. I used a template I had designed. I marked the leather with a pencil and then I cut the pieces with my rotary cutter. There’s a front, back, sides, bottom, the whole nine yards. I cut out all the pieces, making sure they matched up perfectly.

Next, I started assembling. I glued some pieces together, and then sew everything up. It was a lot of hand-sewing. Slow and steady, making sure each stitch was nice and tight. I used a sturdy thread, the same color as the leather, so it wouldn’t show too much. This is the most important part of the whole process. I tried my best to make it look professional. Finally, I succeeded.

After that, I added the hardware. The little feet on the bottom, the D-rings for the straps, and of course, that signature Prada logo. Had to get a replica one, obviously. Attached it carefully, making sure it was centered and straight. I installed the zipper, and then I assembled the handles and straps.

And finally, I have my very own remake of the Small Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag! It turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. It’s not perfect, but it’s got that classic look, and it’s sturdy as heck. I’m pretty proud of it!

What I learned:

Remaking a bag like this takes time and patience. It’s not something you can just whip up in an afternoon. But it’s so satisfying to see the finished product and know that you made it with your own two hands. I’m definitely going to try remaking other classic bags in the future!
